Can you dig it...?

We've been playing catch up on the blog (10 posts in three days!), but today was the first day of real action, so we are finally up to speed. They broke ground on the house, and installed piping. That calls for a little music...

What can we say, our house is a bad mother...(shut your mouth!)

We went to the lot tonight and saw lots of digging (right on!). The plumbing is in, and Lauren took lots of pictures:

Here's the view from the driveway.

The pipe in the foreground is for the kitchen sink, and the pipe behind Hannah is for the guest bath and powder room. (Hard to believe that we'll have 3 1/2 baths in this thing)

Here's the view from the guest room looking toward the morning room. (Don't worry Lauren's mom, we'll get indoor plumbing).

Big pipe from the garage that will route to the upstairs.

We could have the slab poured in a week. (like most neighborhoods in N.C., there are no basements in our development). It's hard to believe how fast things will move. But we are so excited to see real progress (and to be caught up on the blog!)

  1. It's so weird to see how they do slab houses. It's completely opposite of what they do here in PA. They pour the cement walls and footers first, then do the plumbing, then pour the basement over that. Thanks for sharing!

  2. I grew up in Ohio, so it took a while for me to get used to homes without a basement like they do in the South. A couple local Ryan developments do offer basements, but they are a $30,000 upgrade (or at least that's how much it was at the development we looked at).

  3. Wow -- that's a hefty upgrade for a basement.

You are absolutely killing me with the song references. I've spent the last 10 minutes trying to google what song "can you dig it?" was in in the early 90s. Answer: "Whoomp! There It Is." I will now be signing it for the rest of the afternoon.
