All in all, it's just another paint on the wall...

To paint or not to paint?  That is the question. I think that was mentioned in a Shakespeare play a while back. But now, the question for Lauren and I is whether to paint the house once we first move in or to wait. I've seen the point debated in other blogs on here, and to be honest, I'm still not sure what to do. At least I finally know what color the walls will be when we first move in. Luckily, unlike our last house, they won't be stark white. In fact, according to my PM Abe, all Ryan Homes use the same paint (I'm not sure if he meant all homes in this region, or throughout the nation).

Anyway, he said that Ryan uses Duron Paint, a color called Divine White. What does that color look like? Here's an online swatch I found:

It looks a little beige on the swatch, but I have heard it looks different on the wall. Do any other bloggers know what paint went up on their home? If it was divine white, what did you think of it?

  1. Not sure if thats what we have, we are in the Charlotte area as well. Actually the standard paint doesnt look that bad at all, it looks good enough that is not a pressing issue for us to paint right away.

  2. it's regional. Here in the South West Ohio area, they use Sherwin Williams paint. They put up a flat white unless you want to upgrade the color. I think it's a racket to pay $2000 to change a fricken color, but .... it is what it is.
I am not a fan of painting the whole house, and certainly not before the 10month. Ryan will not fix customer painted walls OR if they do, they won't touch the paint.

  3. In our region, they also use Sherwin Williams. We opted not to go with the upgraded paint color because we like to paint and I couldn't see dropping $2200 on a different color of beige. Our standard paint is a creamy color which contrasts nicely with the bright white of the trim. Now that I've seen the color on our walls, we'll wait until after the 10 months to paint.

  4. For our community the standard is Duron Ivoire, a light beige, outside of a couple of accent walls & dining room, were probably good as-is for a long time.

  5. I am in Davidson, NC as well and the Divine White is a cream color. I was actually surprised how much contrast there is between the standard wall color and the trim. We are going to paint as soon as we move in, because I like a little more color. Abe was our PM too....he is GREAT!

    1. Hello I am new to this site. Not sure if we can post emails but illysceo@gmail.com, I am in the Charlotte area and would like some info with your experience building with Ryan Homes.
      Thx

  6. We had Sherwin Williams "Ryan White" so it must not be nationwide. It's a creamy white, like an eggshell color.

  7. We are in the Baltimore area, and Ryan used McCormick paint called "Cool Platinum." It is actually a light creamy beige and contrasts nicely with the white trim. Looks like something I can live with for a few months since we are already seeing nail pops less than a month after closing.

  8. Thanks everyone for your answers. I didn't think Ryan used the same paint everywhere, but it sounds like they do use a similar paint in different regions.

Mommy Esg., I'm going to be studying your blog a lot now. Be warned. :) Abe seems like a great guy, and I look forward to seeing more interior pictures too. (hint, hint!)

  9. We are in Prince Georges County, Maryland. I will be placing a call to our SR to find out our interior paint colors. I hope with we have a contrast in color too. I do not like bare white walls. I always prefer painting before moving in to give the home an inviting look and feel to come home too. I just need to decide this time around whether or not to wait until the 10 month inspection.

  10. We have a very faint off-white or like the lightest beige you can imagine, which I thought resembled that swatch you posted. It is very easy to live with but nicely sets off the stark white door frames and wainscotting (sp?)

  11. Ours is the Sherwin Williams "Ryan White" as well Tammigirl. It looks nice but I'm planning to paint before we move in as (much like MommyEsq I prefer more color in my world)
